Our Kenyan scrunchies are created by the women of Harvest Fields community based organization in Kitale, Kenya. These women are taught sewing skills to provide an income for themselves and their children, empowering their community. Harvest Fields equips vulnerable young women in Kitale, Kenya by unleashing opportunities to break the cycle of extreme poverty. Many of the women have experienced prostitution, trafficking, indentured servitude, and other forms of abuse.

Kitale is an agricultural town in northern Rift Valley Kenya, situated between Mount Elgon and the Cherangany Hills. Extreme material poverty in rural Kenya disproportionately affects women, leading to their victimization. This includes prostitution, trafficking, unplanned pregnancies, child marriage, indentured servitude, inability to continue formal education, lack of employment, emotional trauma, and other forms of abuse.

Harvest Farms provides a safe space for women to learn a trade, creates an opportunity for financial independence and provides menstrual care items. This facility also has a children’s school, GerHellen Creative, that educates many children of the women who benefit from Harvest Field.
